Should you Replace your Entry Door to your Home?

Entry doors that are not in good condition should be replaced, and in some cases, issues can be resolved with a few minor repairs. But how do you know if your entry door needs to be completely replaced?

You should consider replacing your door if…

The door won’t open or close even after adjusting alignment. If a door doesn’t open or close at an adequate rate, this could cause problems in the future if an emergency occurs and you need to leave the home quickly.

The frame/door is broken or is rotten. Repairing a rotten door is expensive and time-consuming. The rotten door will often have future problems occur despite efforts to repair the frame.

Your energy bills have increased. Replacing old drafty doors with modern , energy-efficient doors will reduce your energy costs for your home.

The furniture and flooring near the door are bleached due to the sun. When unfiltered light flows in through old glass, it can damage your home décor and flooring, while at the same time, increasing the temperature in your home.

You want your exterior to have a better over-all appearance. Increasing your curb appeal by installing a new custom front door would in the future be a better return on your investment and adds a great design element to your home.

If you decide to install a custom front door, Aspen Home Improvements has a wide selection available in an assortment of colors, shapes and sizes. Please feel free to give us a call for a free estimate, or email us at aspenwindows@gmail.com for any questions you may have.

What to Consider When Buying a Replacement Patio Door

Patio doors are a great way to both add light to a space, as well as a simple design element to your home. While older models of patio doors were riddled with problems such as, leakage and heat loss, modern styles have improved greatly. Many styles of replacement patio doors incorporate some type of multi-locking system for better security, have energy efficient frames and glass and include the technology to prevent leakage. With this guide, we hope to help you decide which  patio doors are the right choice for your home.

Styles:
Below are 3 choices of patio doors that provide both aesthetics and functionality to your home:

Sliding Patio Doors: These doors are incredibly popular and offer the benefit of added light to a room, and are easy to maintain and clean. Sliding patio doors consist of two panels that slide along side one another on hidden tracks. Double sliding patio doors, which consist of 4 panels, work the same way. Replacement sliding patio doors won't interfere with furniture placement, because the panels slide parallel to the wall.

Folding Patio Doors: This system of doors operates "accordion style", where each panel folds neatly to each side, offering a wide open space to the outdoors. They are available in styles of 2 to 8 panels.

Swinging Patio Doors: Often name hinged-patio doors, consist  of glass panels that hang in pairs and are center hung with hinges on both sides of the center vertical division to rotate. Another type of hinged door is a French door, which has the latching mechanism is hidden when the custom french doors are open.

Materials

Fiberglass: This material has the look of wood without the upkeep and can withstand extreme temperatures, both hot and cold

Aluminum: A cost effective alternative to wood, aluminum is both lightweight and strong. It does well in most climates and is corrosion-resistant.

Steel: Both strong and durable, this material requires little upkeep and does well in most climates. An economical option, it is also rust-resistant.

Vinyl: Known for its durability, it will withstand most climates and is energy efficient. It will also never fade, peel or rot like other materials might.

Wood: Made from fir, mahogany, alder or pine, each as their own unique characteristic.

Clad-Wood: A casing of metal surrounding the wood, keeps doors low maintenance and requires no painting.
