3 Indicators That Your Vinyl Siding Might Need to be Replaced

The vinyl siding on your home provides curb appeal to your home.  The color and style of the siding takes on the personality of the homeowner, but it also has a much more important and functional purpose.  The main purpose of siding is to protect the interior structure of the home from weather, including: rain, humidity, high/low temperatures and insects.  This is why proper maintenance of siding is very important, because of what it protects. 1. The Siding is Peeling- When your siding has cracks, or holes in it, it may be time to replace it.  These external problems may indicate that that there is a greater problem behind the siding panels such as wood rot or mold.  The chalky substance also indicates that the materials used in the manufacturing of the product have broken down over time. Make sure to check with a professional to determine if the siding can be repaired or is in need of total replacement.

2. The Siding is Warped- If your vinyl siding is warping or buckling, it could indicate that the siding is in need of replacement.  Because of moisture getting under the siding panels, the board underneath the siding will rot and push the siding outward.  When this occurs, the vinyl siding is no longer able to provide a protective exterior barrier for your home.

3. The Siding has Fungus and Mold- If you see fungus and/or mold growing on the siding, you may need to replace your siding.  Also, many homes that have fungus or mold on the exterior may have these problems occurring on the materials behind the vinyl siding as well.
